What to expect in my chair yoga classes?
In my chair yoga classes you can expect an hour long experience accompanied by relaxing music without words in it. This helps us stay focus on the sensations in our body to learn more about ourselves. We tend to focus on maintaining flexibility and range of motion in the joints. I use a combination of the Sanskrit and English names for the poses so all can understand. The last 5 minutes or so are reserved for Savasana or Corpse Pose. This is our final relaxation and meditation after all the hard work done in the active part of the class. Close you eyes and enjoy a moment of rest!
FAQ about Chair Yoga

I've never tried yoga before, can I still attend?
Of course! Chair yoga is for anyone! Whether you've practiced yoga for years or have never been to a single class. As long as you can sit in a chair and breathe then chair yoga is for you! I ask that you show up a bit early so I can introduce myself and ask a few questions.

What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes. This may look like yoga pants and a fitted top. Or it may be your pajamas. As long as you're comfortable moving in it and your clothes don't overly restrict your motions.

Do I need a mat/blocks/strap etc.?
Nope! Blocks and straps are provided by the facility. Yoga mats are available too in some places. Mats are a personal preference. I often use one to prevent my socks from sliding on the floor and give me a better grip.

Shoes or no shoes?
Up to you! We will be working with the foot and ankle during part of class. This makes some movements easier in socks than in sneakers. Either way I will provide instructions for with or without shoes.

Will there be standing?
Most of the time, yes. Usually there's a few standing poses in each class if only for a few minutes. As with all asanas (yoga postures) there are options. If standing while holding onto the chair isn't in your practice let me know at the beginning of class. I'll provide adaptations for the standing postures and I doubt you will be the only person that stays sitting.
